Step-by-Step Instructions:
For this example, we will be making 100ml of reed diffuser mix with the fragrance of Brazilian Bum Bum Type – Fragrance Oil Which has a maximum usage of 25% in a diffuser mix.
- Choose Your Container and Prepare It: Select a container with a narrow neck, which helps slow down the evaporation of the oil. Clean the container thoroughly and let it dry.
- Measure the diffuser Base: In a measuring cup, pour about (75 ml) of your chosen diffuser base. If you want a larger batch, you can adjust the quantities accordingly.
- Add Fragrance Oils: Add 25ml of your fragrance oil to the base oil. Remember on each of our fragrance pages we list the tested fragrance oil percentage.
- Mix Thoroughly: Stir the mixture thoroughly to ensure the diffuser base and fragrance oil are well combined. Using a small whisk or shaking the mixture in a separate bottle can help blend the oils effectively.
- Pour the mixture into the Container: Use a funnel to pour the oil mixture into your chosen glass container carefully.
- Insert the Reeds: Place 1 pack of reeds into the container. Allow the reeds to soak for about an hour, then flip them over to help the fragrance start diffusing.
-
Position and Enjoy: Place your reed diffuser in a high-traffic area or near a drafty spot to encourage the scent to circulate. Avoid placing it near direct sunlight or heat sources, as this will cause the oil to evaporate quickly.
- Maintenance: Flip the reeds every few days to refresh the scent. If the fragrance starts to fade, replace the oil mixture or add more essential oils. Replace the reeds every 1-2 months as they may become clogged with oil over time.
Tips for Customising Your Reed Diffuser:
- Experiment with Scents: Mix and match fragrance oils to create unique blends.
- Decorate the Container: Add decorative elements like ribbons, twine, or charms to match your home décor.
- Use Coloured Reeds or Containers: To add a pop of colour, choose coloured reeds or containers that complement your room's theme.
Troubleshooting Common Issues:
- Weak Scent: If the scent is too mild, add more essential oil or flip the reeds more often. Make sure your reeds are not clogged, as this can hinder scent diffusion.
- Scent Fades Too Quickly: Keep your diffuser away from direct sunlight, heaters, or fans, as these can cause the oil to evaporate faster.
- Oil Not Traveling Up the Reeds: If the oil isn’t wicking up the reeds, add a bit more alcohol to thin the mixture.
Making reed diffusers is a simple and enjoyable way to personalise your home fragrance. With just a few ingredients, you can create a beautiful, aromatic addition to any room that reflects your personal style and scent preferences.
