Ensure candles are kept out of reach of pets and children at all times. Avoid exposure to drafts, and never leave a lit candle unattended. Discontinue burning when there is only 1-2cm or less of wax remaining.
While rare, some coconut shells may crack. It’s crucial to place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface for safety.
If the pouring temperature exceeds 45° – 50° degrees, there’s a risk of wax seeping through the bottom/sides of the cups. Be sure to pour at the recommended temperature to avoid this issue when using your candle making it.
Supplies You'll Need (Not Included):
Double boiler or a heat-safe bowl and pot
Thermometer (for measuring wax temperature)
A stirring tool (like a spoon or spatula)
Digital scale
Scissors
Paper towels (for cleaning spills)
Please note, that each Coconut shell is different as they are made by nature! They can vary in size and shape
Pouring the wax over temperature can cause the wax to seep into the Coconut shell wall.
Coconut Candle Making Kit – Instructional Guide This guide will walk you through the process of making your own beautiful coconut candles. With the contents of this candle making kit, you’ll create four amazing candles that will fill your space with the tropical scent of coconut lime.
Step-by-Step Candle Making Process:
Step 1: Preparing the Coconuts
Inspect the coconuts: Make sure they are clean and free of dust or debris.
Place the coconuts on a flat surface: Use a towel to help stabilise them if needed, ensuring they stay upright when you pour in the wax.
Step 2: Preparing the Wick
Attach the Wick Sticker: Peel off the backing of the wick sticker and press it firmly onto the bottom of the metal base of the wick.
Secure the Wick to the Coconut: Center the wick in the bottom of the coconut and press down firmly to ensure it sticks.
Use the Metal Wick Holder: Slide the wick through the opening in the metal wick holder and lay it across the top of the coconut to keep the wick centred and upright.
Step 3: Melting the Soy Wax
Set Up a Double Boiler: Fill a pot with a few inches of water and place a heat-safe bowl on top, ensuring the bowl does not touch the water.
Measure the Wax: You will need approximately 250g of soy wax per coconut. We recommend melting the wax in batches. The coconuts are a natural product so each can be a different size, never fill the wax to the top, try to leave at least a centimetre.
Melt the Wax: Heat the wax over medium heat, stirring gently until it is fully melted.
Monitor the Temperature: The wax should be 85°C
Step 4: Adding Fragrance Oil
Remove the Wax from Heat: Once the wax has fully melted and reached the right temperature, remove it from the heat source.
Add Fragrance Oil: For every 250g of wax, add approximately 25ml of fragrance oil (two bottles of 50ml fragrance oil will cover all four candles). Stir thoroughly to ensure the oil blends with the wax. You can use less fragrance oil if you would like but only use a maximum of 10% fragrance oil to wax.
Let Cool Slightly: Allow the wax to cool to 45°C - 50°C before pouring into the coconuts. If the wax is too hot it can seep through the container.
Step 5: Pouring the Wax
Carefully Pour the Wax: Slowly pour the wax into each coconut, leaving about 1cm of space from the top.
Let the Wax Set: Allow the candles to sit undisturbed while the wax solidifies. This process may take up to 24 hours.
Step 6: Trimming the Wick
Trim the Wick: Once the wax has fully set and cooled (ideally overnight), remove the metal wick holder and trim the wick to about 1/4 inch (6mm) above the wax surface.
Safety Tips:
Never leave melting wax unattended.
Use caution when working with hot wax to avoid burns.
Always keep your finished candles on a heat-resistant surface when burning.
Never allow the candle to burn all the way down to the coconut base.
To prevent fire incidents & serious injury never leave lit candles unattended.
Keep away from drafts and curtains. Keep out of reach of children and pets, never move a lit candle.
Never burn candles near flammable items (curtains, beds etc).
Sit candles on a stable, fire-resistant plate during burning.
