Choosing the Right Moulds

Material Matters: Moulds come in various materials such as silicone, metal, plastic, and rubber. Each material has its own advantages and considerations. Silicone moulds, for example, are flexible and easy to release candles from, while metal moulds offer durability.

Preparing the Moulds

Cleaning: Before starting, clean your moulds thoroughly to remove any dust or debris. This ensures a pristine finish on your candles.

Coating: For easy release, coat the inside of your moulds with a thin layer of mould release spray or a non-stick cooking spray. Be sure to wipe away any excess to prevent pooling.

Securing Wicks: If your candle design includes a wick, secure it in the center of the mould using a wick holder or adhesive. Ensure the wick is taut and straight.

Melting and Pouring the Wax

Selecting Wax: Choose a wax suitable for your specific mould and intended use. Different waxes have varying melting points and characteristics. Test, Test, Test!

Melting Process: Melt your wax using a double boiler, following the manufacturer's guidelines. Maintain a safe and controlled melting environment.

Adding Fragrance and Colour: If desired, add fragrance oil and colour to your melted wax. Stir thoroughly to ensure an even distribution.

Pouring Technique: Slowly and steadily pour the melted wax into the prepared mould. Leave a small space at the top to prevent overflow.

Cooling and Demoulding

Allowing Set Time: Allow the candle to cool and solidify completely. The cooling time may vary depending on the size and type of candle.

Demoulding: Gently flex or tap the mould to release the candle. If using silicone moulds, this step is usually straightforward. For rigid moulds, consider placing them in the freezer for a few minutes to ease the release.

Trimming and Finishing: Trim the excess wick and any irregularities on the candle's surface.
